Where everything is still real.

Sleeping under the cork oak in southern Portugal

“Sob o Sobreiro.” An intimate stay in the hills of Monchique.

scroll

A place to rest, to sleep deeply, to need nothing at all.

Where the nights are quiet and cool, and the birds wake you to the views and the warm sun.

The name

Sob o Sobreiro

Under the cork oak. In Portugal, many “casas” carry a name of their own. We chose the Sobreiro, the beautiful cork oak that stands in front of the house, protected by law, held by time. Every nine years its bark can be harvested again to make cork.

We live beside it. Our guests, beneath it.

The tiny villa

The tiny villa.

One bedroom. One large skylight. Stars at night, birds in the morning. Open the window and you're really sleeping outside.

Your own entrance, your own terrace, your own quiet. We live next door, in case you need anything.

The region

Monchique.

The Algarve behind the Algarve. Vast mountains, pure spring water, lush green nature, and local restaurants — an affordable oasis of flavour. A cool brook is close by, the tourists are not.
